Chestertown, MD Goes Bag Free!!

Posted on Thu, 04/28/2011 - 12:58

At the end of March, we were contacted by the Mayor of the Town of Chestertown in Maryland.  Her town was getting ready to vote to ban single-use plastic grocery bags and she was looking to partner with Conservingnow.com on an educational campaign for the town's residents.  Her idea was that our clings would be an important component in helping change plastic bag habits!  We obviously agreed!  After speaking with Mayor Bailey, we were even more delighted to be a part of their efforts.  Mayor Bailey and Chestertown residents are passionate about their beautiful town and surroundings.  They were committed to changing their habits as they had come to see plastic bags as a blight on their community.  In addition, they recognized what we have believed all along - plastic bags aren't free!  In fact, when you think about the cost to the environment, the cost of clean ups, the costs associated with wildlife and the planet, we can all see that plastic bags are a very expensive "convenience" idea.

In looking at Chestertown's website, it is obvious that it is a town filled with a rich tradition of history and culture.  I encourage you to send a message of support to Mayor Bailey and the town's residents.  They are a shining example of how a grassroots movement is changing the face of our planet.  Exactly the spirit we are so thrilled to support.
