Your windows may just be the biggest energy waster in your home!  Experts estimate that you may be losing as much as 25% of your home's energy through your leaky windows.  Here are a few things to think about to save energy!

Install weatherstripping on drafty doors and windows.

A stretch-seal, heat-heat shrink plastic sheeting kit is an inexpensive way to seal warped or single-glazed windows.

Use drapes or shutters to keep the heat in for the winter and out for the summer.  Uninsulated drapes can cut window heat loss by one-third - insulated drapes by one-half.

Remove, clean and store window air conditioners for the winter.  If this isn't possible, wrap the unit with a thick layer of fiberglass insulation and seal it with plastic sheeting and duct tape to keep out moisture.

Don't seal cracks - replace the piece of glass instead!

If you have leaky wooden windows, seal them where the frame meets the house.  If you have leaky aluminum windows, simply replace the weatherstripping.
