But if everyone focused on the simple actions, the ones that we can do without a great deal of effort, it is these simple actions that collectively can make a huge difference for the planet and its future generations.

1. Stop Junk Mail – There are services that your can register for that will stop unwanted junk mail or catalogs.
2. Snip Six-Pack Rings – They are deadly to ocean life. For an even better choice – buy soda in bulk without six-pack rings.
3. Lower the temperature of your hot water heater to 120 degrees Farenheit.
4. Use latex-based paints instead of oil-based ones & properly dispose of used paint. Improper disposal often ends up in creeks, streams, rivers and bays.
5. Take good care of your tires. Properly maintain them (proper inflation and rotate when you get your oil changed). You will see greater fuel efficiency (a bonus for you and the environment)!
6. Don't let the faucet run when you are brushing your teeth, washing your hands or doing the dishes.
7. Avoid products made from or containing CFC's.
8. Use rechargeable batteries.
9. Always say no to Styrofoam.
10. Install a low-flow showerhead.
11. Use compact fluorescent bulbs.
12. Don't let go of balloons – animals think they are food when they finally come down and are killed by eating them.
